Lepakshi is a village in anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh is built during the Vijayanagara King’s Period.
After trekking Makalidurga we headed towards Lepakshi,It is around 60 kms from Makalidurga,
We reached around 1:00PM in Lepakshi Temple,
It is built in vijayanagara architectural style.
The sculptures in the temple and the paintings on the ceilings add the beauty of this temple. The best one which mesmerized us is the 'Hanging pillar' which does not rest on the ground fully,
There
are about 70 pillars at this 16th century temple of stone in
vijayanagara style , hats off to the ancient engineer/temple builder.
There is a Natya Mantapam/Dance Hall with sculpted pillars and a Kalyana Mantapam/Marriage Hall known for its artistic beauty.
We spent around 2 hours in/out of the temple took some piks and sat for a while and came out of the temple took our bikes from the parking & rode towards Nandi bull which is around 500 mts from the temple
It is a large granite Nandi Bull on a hillock as “Tortoise shaped hill” and it is believed that this is the second largest monolith in india.
From here the next destination was to Avalabetta hill.
